Jawad Al Anani

Jordanian politician and economist. Born in 1943 in Halhul. He held several important positions in the state as head of the royal court, minister, and general manager of the Social Security Corporation. He served as Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply in the first government of Hani al-Mulki and the second government of Hani al-Mulki.
Dr. Jawad Al-Anani holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Georgia in the United States of America since 1975, and he obtained a Master’s degree in Economics from Vanderbilt University in the United States, Tennessee in 1970, and a Bachelor’s degree from the American University in Cairo in 1967.
Al-Anani began his career as a principal researcher in the Department of Economic Research at the Central Bank of Jordan during the period (1967-1977), then undersecretary of the Ministry of Labor, and director-general of the Public Institution for Social Security during the period (1977-1979).

  • Deputy Prime Minister for Social Development and Minister of Foreign Affairs (1997-1998)
  • Minister of Information and Cabinet Affairs, and served as a member of the Jordanian Senate during the period 1993-2001.
  • In June 2016, the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply in Hani Al-Mulki’s first government, in addition to the position of Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs.
  • He retained his position in Hani Al-Mulki’s second government as Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, but his ministry was replaced, as he was assigned the portfolio of Minister of State for Investment Affairs.
