Mary Kamel Amin Kawar was born in Amman, Jordan. Her father is a geologist, Kamel Kawar, and her mother is Widad Kawar, from the Palestinian city of Tulkarm. In 1988, Mary Kawar received her Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and Economics from Tufts University in the United States of America, then she obtained a Master’s degree in “Social Policy and Planning for Developing Countries” from the United Kingdom in 1989, and she received a Ph.D. in “Development Studies” from the College of London Economics 1997.
Her positions and career
- Researcher at the Jordanian Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, during the period (1989-1991).
- Adviser to the Jordanian Minister of Labor, during the period (2006-2007).
- Director of the International Labor Organization in East Africa, and official and consultant at the organization’s headquarters in Geneva and the regional office in Beirut, during Period (1997-2017).
- The Jordanian Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, during the period (14 June 2018 – 7 November 2019), in the government of Omar Al-Razzaz.
